Why Should You Choose OptiLight

The Only FDA-Approved Light Therapy for Dry Eyes

Experience relief from the distressing symptoms of dry, irritated eyes with OptiLight – the groundbreaking, FDA-approved light therapy designed to effectively manage them. Eye Specialists Of Delaware proudly offers an innovative treatment incorporating Lumenis’ patented Optimal Pulse Technology.

OptiLight utilizes broad-spectrum light to eliminate inflammation—a major underlying culprit of dry eye disease. The treatment targets the delicate contours of the treated area, ensuring maximum effectiveness with minimum discomfort.

Safe and Non-Invasive Treatment That Offers Lasting Relief

Backed by numerous clinical studies, OptiLight is proven to be a safe and effective way to improve signs of dry eye disease due to MGD. The technology is centered around providing patients with an exceptional experience, ensuring peace of mind, safety, and utmost precision.

A course of treatment typically consists of four sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart, with each session usually lasting 10 to 15 minutes. Your practitioner will take you through the entire process, applying a coupling gel to the treatment area and covering your eyes with shields.

During the treatment, you may experience a warm sensation as light is applied to your skin. However, OptiLight is gentle and minimizes discomfort to ensure a smooth and pleasant treatment throughout the session.

Immediate Results After Treatment

After undergoing OptiLight treatment, you may experience some redness in the eyes that usually disappears within a few hours. You can return to your daily activities and even apply makeup straight away in most cases. However, you will be advised to avoid direct sunlight for a few days and apply sunscreen to ensure optimal recovery.

Patients usually report an improvement after their second or third session. Regular maintenance treatments are also highly recommended every 6 to 12 months to ensure the best, long-term results.

Remarkably, OptiLight offers a 6.3x increase in expressible glands relative to the control group and a 2.7x improvement in tear break-up time, providing transformative, fast, and gentle relief where it’s needed the most. Furthermore, the treatment area lies directly beneath the eyes, minimizing discomfort and the risk of scarring on your face without the need for invasive methods.

Thanks to OptiLight, your search for a solution to your dry eyes ends here. Experience true comfort, visible relief, and enduring improvements with Eye Specialists Of Delaware’s OptiLight—because your eyes deserve the best.

Important Considerations Before Undergoing OptiLight Treatment

Diagnosing dry eye disease

Identifying At-Risk Patients

At Eye Specialists Of Delaware, we take pride in delivering safe and effective treatments that cater to each of our patient’s needs. However, we acknowledge that our Lumenis energy-based treatments are not suitable for everyone and may carry some risks. As such, it is always important to discuss your medical history with your treatment provider before proceeding.

OptiLight with Lumenis’ patented Optimal Pulse Technology is not recommended for patients who have the following conditions in the treatment area

  • Active Infections
  • Dysplastic Nevi
  • Tattoos
  • Significant Concurrent Skin Inflammation (Excluding Rosacea or Acne)
  • Active Cold Sores
  • Open Lacerations
  • Abrasions
  • Prolonged Sun Exposure

Caution is also advised for patients with a compromised immune system, coagulation disorders, photosensitivity, hormonal disorders, or a history of Herpes simplex near the treatment area. Your treatment provider will help determine if you are a suitable candidate for OptiLight after discussing your medical history and assessing any relevant risk factors.

Possible Side Effects After Treatment

At Eye Specialists Of Delaware, patient safety and satisfaction are our top priorities. While OptiLight provides a transformative solution for dry eye disease due to MGD, we encourage patients to be aware of potential contraindications and risks prior to the procedure.

During the treatment, the patient’s eyes must be covered with eye shields to protect them from the bright light. Minor bruising, redness, or swelling may occur after treatment, which is normal and typically subsides within a few hours. Sunburn or hyperpigmentation may occur if proper post-treatment care is not taken, so be sure to follow your treatment provider’s recommendations for aftercare.

Patient Testimonials

“I’m very pleased with the outcome of my treatment with the bright light. I have had this meibomian gland dysfunction-type dry eye disease for years, and have tried numerous other treatments, including several different types of eye drops, with little to no improvement. That actually changed with this new treatment!

After the first session, there was dramatic improvement in the way my eyes felt. There was much less dryness and redness, which to me was a miracle. The improvement with the subsequent sessions occurred, but was incrementally less each time. That being said, because the improvement was so great with the first treatment, I feel that I benefited greatly and am so thankful that there is finally hope for my eyes. I’m planning to return every year for another of these wonderful treatments.”
