Clear Lens Exchange
There are several lens implant options available for the treatment of cataracts, as well as the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
There is no such thing as “the best lens” but there is a lens that is best for you. What lens is best for you, is determined by your ocular health and the goals you have post-surgery for your dependence on glasses or contact lenses. You will discuss all your options with your surgeon and together you will decide what’s best for you.
An intraocular lens (or IOL) is a tiny, artificial lens for the eye. It replaces the eye’s natural lens that is removed during cataract surgery or for a clear lens exchange refractive surgery.
The lens bends (refracts) light rays that enter the eye, helping you to see. Your lens should be clear. But if you have a cataract, your lens has become cloudy. Things look blurry, hazy or less colorful with a cataract. Cataract surgery removes this cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear IOL to improve your vision.
CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE
Clear Lens Exchange (CLE) is a procedure that is comparable in many aspects to cataract surgery. The only difference between Clear Lens Exchange and cataract extraction is that during cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is replaced, whereas in CLE the lens is replaced before it has a chance to turn into a cataract. With the latest advances in lens technology, patient are able to achieve vision freedom at all distances near and far.

Standard monofocal lens implants replace your natural lens, removed during cataract surgery, and either correct near or far vision but not both. These standard IOLs are covered by most health plans for replacement after cataract surgery.
Premium intraocular lens implants are more advanced and can improve both far and near vision. They are more likely to decrease the reliance on glasses after cataract surgery. However, premium IOLs are not covered by health plans.
Premium lens implants, such as the Toric lens, provide correction for near or far vision (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism). Other premium lens implants such as the ReSTOR, Tecnis, and Crystalens also provide correction for both near and far vision (multifocal).
